South India

The South India peninsular is surrounded by the Arabian Sea in the west, the Indian Ocean in the South and Bay of Bengal in the East, often referred to as the Hindu heartland of India and retains much of its wonderful Hindu art and architecture. The area has an interesting combination of ancient Indian dynasties and European colonial influences, present in Chennai and tea growing hill districts. Visit the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary in the Cardamom Hills to spot the India Elephant, the Macaque Monkey and if you are very lucky an Indian Tiger, although sightings are very rare, before travelling onwards to the beautiful lush backwaters of Kerala.
